🚗 Government Unveils £63m Funding to Boost EV Charging – What It Means for UK Drivers🚗 - 14.07.2025

Switching to electric just got a little easier. Transport Secretary Heidi Alexander has announced a £63 million investment in electric vehicle (EV) charging infrastructure, aiming to make EVs more affordable and accessible across the UK. This funding will be available to local councils and other organizations to ramp up public charging facilities - making it simpler for drivers to charge their vehicles on the go.

Alongside this, a larger £700 million subsidy package is in development to help cut the upfront cost of buying new electric cars. The scheme is expected to offer more generous support for UK-manufactured vehicles, with Nissan’s new Leaf—set to be produced in Sunderland—likely to benefit.

It’s worth noting that premium brands such as Tesla and the upcoming electric Range Rover from JLR may not qualify for subsidies under the current plans. The focus is firmly on making affordable EVs more attainable for everyday drivers.

While this funding falls short of the £950 million previously pledged by the former Conservative government for motorway charging points—a commitment that was scrapped last month—it marks a step forward in expanding the UK's EV network.
